“Loadz of Berloons“ is an interdisciplinary and intercultural art project, which aims at bringing together Polish and German artists from Lodz and Berlin. The heart of the project is communication, cooperation and mobility. “Loadz of Berloons“ is a continuation of “Lodz-Berlin-Express” held in Lodz late in the summer of 2007. It is divided into two parts – “Workshop” and “Exhibition”.
the Concept
“Loadz of Berloons“, a motto playing on the names of the two cities that are home to the artists, includes the concepts of heavy loads and burdens on one hand and of ease on the other, the balloon standing for some kind of wrapping – enveloping and defining, fragile, changeable and volatile.
The project is meant as an experiment that investigates into the concepts of mobility, transport and localisation, concepts which include the ideas of starting, arriving, taking and bringing with us as a transfer
When people are “underway“ they are not just moving. In a way they are not alone; they carry their norms and beliefs, their habits, even their belongings. Which strategies do they develop when moving? And how do they handle the chances and challenges of being on the move? What does it mean to be somewhere and not to be somewhere?
